Ratio Product Lab
Ratio Product Lab was born in Atlanta's thriving innovation ecosystem, initially launching from the Georgia Tech Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) as Spectralogic. In 1994, a strategic new facility and move to Buckhead marked a pivotal evolution: we formalized as an independent business and rebranded as Ratio Design Lab.
From the start, our emphasis on concurrent product development—bringing together multidisciplinary teams of designers, engineers, and innovators—drove game-changing breakthroughs. We emerged as an early leader in portable computing solutions, delivering advanced technology designs that were genuinely ahead of their time and helped shape the future of mobile and compact devices.
That same forward-thinking, integrated approach has defined us ever since. Relaunched in 2015 as Ratio Product Lab, Jim Ferguson renewed our commitment to the Ratio legacy while adapting to the fast-paced world of modern hardware creation—where speed, iteration, and manufacturability are everything.
Today, in our Virginia-Highland studio (right in the heart of Atlanta at 1243 Virginia Ave NE), we're equipped with a 24/7 3D printing farm and resources for industrial designers, mechanical & electrical engineering. We offer true end-to-end product development: from bold idea discovery and market/patent research, through concept sketches and renders, precise CAD modeling, rapid functional prototypes, electronics integration, all the way to manufacturing-ready designs and fulfillment.
Decades of experience mean we help Atlanta founders, startups, inventors, and established brands avoid common pitfalls, accelerate timelines, reduce redesign costs, and bring market-ready products to life—whether it's consumer gadgets, industrial tools, medical devices, or defense applications.
Proudly Atlanta-rooted, deeply connected to Georgia Tech's entrepreneurial spirit, and a foundation built in Auburn University ID program, we’re still pushing boundaries: Ratio Product Lab is your trusted local partner for turning visionary ideas into real, scalable products.
Let's create the next breakthrough together.
